BALKAN RETAINS MEMBERSHIP IN IATA

Balkan Airlines national air carrier retains its membership in IATA and will be re-introduced in the international flight booking system, the receivers of the company said. The contract with the international booking system Amadeus will be signed this week. Balkan Airlines already resumed servicing major international and domestic destinations. Balkan is owned by the Israeli Zeevy Holdings Group. Sofia City Court declared Balkan Airlines insolvent on March 5, 2001. Zeevy has grounded all flights on February 14 and is suing Bulgaria for USD 230 million at the International Court of Arbitration in Paris citing alleged government breaches of the privatisation contract. Zeevy bought Balkan Airlines for USD 150,000 in April 1999 and promised to invest USD 120 million in a five-year-period.
