Clashes Erupt as Trade Summit Tension Escalates

Riot police have fought running battles with anti-globalisation protesters near world trade talks in Hong Kong, in the worst violence there for 16 years. Protesters with bamboo sticks stormed police lines, as officers used pepper spray and batons to push them back. Nine hundred demonstrators have been "rounded up", police say, and are being held on a road near the talks venue.
