The captain of the Bulgarian national football squad Stilian Petrov donated BGN 15,000 to an orphanage for sick children.

His donation is within the Presidential charity campaign "Bulgaria's Christmas". The campaign was launched December 1 for the third successive year at the initiative of President Georgi Parvanov and aims to help ailing children.

"Bulgaria's Christmas", which has already turned into a tradition for Bulgaria, is co-organized by the Bulgarian National TV channel and private TV channel Nova Televisia.

This year, a special website has been launched to explain the aims of the move, and instruct people how to donate money. The site http://www.bgkoleda.bg explains that short messaging to 1117 (for subscribers of MTel and GloBul) and calls to 0900 1117 (for fixed lines) donate one lev (about 0.5 euro) for the campaign.

A number of Bulgarian celebrities and artists are featured on the website with their appeals to support the campaign, among whom Olympic champion Maria Grozdeva, artist Svetlin Roussev and Sylvie Vartan, the Bulgaria-born music superstar.
