Bulgarian swimmer Mihail Alexandrov has set a new record for his country by finishing fourth in the 200 meters breaststroke swimming at the European championship in Trieste.

Alexandrov finished fourth in the 25-meter pool and overtook the 200 meters for 2:09, 55 minutes.

Twenty-year old Alexandrov is the son of former Bulgarian breaststroke star Plamen Donchev.

Swimmers from Russia, Poland and Italy grabbed the first three places, as Alexandrov was just 31 hundredths of a minute short of a medal.
