DEPUTY TRANSPORT MINISTER: RAILWAYS TRAVEL CONDITIONS WILL IMPROVE

Steps are being taken for improving the travel conditions in the State Railways Company, Deputy Transport Minister Lyubomir Ivanov said.

He explained that the company no longer works on a purely trade principle and soon will have to face the competition of a carrier company. Private companies have been selected under the Public Procurement Act for cleaning the wagons.

Minister Ivanov compared the ticket with a contract the passenger signs with the carrier company. There are special regulations which came into force at the beginningof 2002, stipulating the conditions under which the passenger may insist on price discount, he said.

According to Minister Ivanov the media’s interest in private carrier companies does not respond to the real situation. So far no applications for railway company license has been submitted in the railway administration.

Minister Ivanov expressed the hope that private railways company will soon emerge on the Bulgarian market, contributing to the improvement of the service.

Starting from January 1, the Bulgarian State Railways was divided in two independent companies – one, in charge of the transportation and one in charge of the infrastructure
