A special mass will be served Wednesday to mark the holiday of the Sofia's landmark St Alexander Nevski Cathedral.
The Cathedral, which is one of Sofia's most famous monuments, marks 81 years since it was inaugurated.
The St Alexander Nevski Cathedral was built between 1882 and 1912 in honour of the Russian soldiers who died trying to liberate Bulgaria from Ottoman rule during the War of Liberation in 1878. The cathedral bears the name of Alexander Nevski, the patron saint of the family of the Russian Tsar at the time, Alexander II.
The cathedral, surmounted by golden domes, is believed to be one of the finest buildings in the Balkan countries.
