French Kiss for a Cigarette in Bulgaria

Society | November 17, 2005, Thursday // 00:00

"I give a French kiss for a cigarette" is the motto of the campaign launched by Students in the seaside's Varna in view of the Great Smoke Out Day.

The initiative is organized by the Bulgarian youth Red Cross, Varna Municipality and the Student Council with the local Technical University, Darik radio reported.

At a similar initiative in 2003, the students gave about 500 kisses. Being armed with such "dangerous weapons", the organizers hope to convince many people to give up the bad habit, or at least lay down one cigarette.

The Great Smoke Out Day was first launched in the States in 1977 and is celebrated every third Thursday of November. The day was officially recognized by the International Union Against Cancer (UICC) and is now celebrated in countries worldwide.

Bulgaria first marked the day in 1990.
