FOREIGN MINISTER VISITS IRAN TO DISCUSS BILATERAL RELATIONS

Foreign Minister Passy and an official Bulgarian delegation is at an official visit to Iran.

The relations between Bulgaria and Iran date back from more than 100 years. The mutual trade between Bulgaria and Iran stood at USD 24.8 M in 2000. Bulgaria exports to Iran mainly fertilizers, synthetic fibres and electric components.

Some 94% of the Iranian imports consist in crude oil.

The ledgers of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry show that 51 companies fully owned by Iranians and 12 joint ones are registered in Bulgaria.

Mraz, Balkanpharma, Technoimpex, Bulgartabac Holding, House-Building Works, Construction and Reconstruction, Gazstroymontazh are among them. Mraz Company already makes business in the Islamic Republic.

Iran’s importance has increased because of its proximity to hot spots like Afghanistan, Iraq and Caucas, Foreign Ministry representatives commented. The country’s significance further increased following the attacks of September 11.
