Chart-topping British singer Robbie Williams won the prize for the Best Male act at the 12th annual MTV Europe Music Awards held on Thursday in the Portuguese capital Lisbon.
Williams, whose new album "Intensive Care" is one of the best-selling in Europe this year, beat rap stars Eminem, 50 Cent and Snoop Dogg as well as dance music star Moby.
Winners were selected by music fans from across Europe and Africa who voted via MTV's websites online, except for the category of best video which is selected by MTV Europe.
Columbian pop star Shakira won the prize for Bwst Female. Gorillaz were voted Best Group, while Green Day received the award for Best Rock. Green Day's "American Idiot" was also declared best Album.
Snoop Dogg won the Best Hip-Hop title. Best Alternative went to System of a Down. Coldplay's "Speed Of Sound" was voted by the MTV viewers Best Song, the band also received the awards for Best UK and Ireland Act.
The Best R&B award went to Alicia Keys, while The Black Eyed Peas grabbed the Best Pop.
James Blunt received the Best New Act prize and the Best Video was awarded Chemical Brothers.
