The mayor of coastal town of Kavarna Tsonko Tsonev was picked Man of Year 2005 in hot rivalry with Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev and music guru Ivo Papazov.

The competition runs every year organized by male-luring magazine Club-M to recognise Bulgarian men of highest standing through the year.

The official awarding ceremony will be held on December 3, Mayor Tsonev told Sofia News Agency. Off the official ranking, World Chess Champion Vesselin Topalov will be also decorated with an honorable sign.

A committed rock fan, Mayor Tsonev is in full swing on the way to turn his picturesque hometown of Kavarna into a rock capital on the Balkans Peninsula. He is also a feverish supporter of cultural initiatives, one of which is the state-supported project Bulgaria in Miniatures.

After bringing rock dinosaurs Deep Purple, Saxxon, Ronnie James Dio, the energetic mayor braces for the new wave of rock with Scorpions, Accept, Destruction, Gamma Rey and Victory.

Previous cavaliers of the Man of the Year Award were top gymnast Yordan Yovchev (2004), Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov (2003), Boyko Borisov (2002), Hristo Stoitchkov (1994), former Prime Minister Ivan Kostov (1998), former Presidents Petar Stoyanov (1996, 1997) and Zhelyu Zhelev (1990).
