Bulgarian top racket Magdalena Maleeva ended her career, and an entire era in the country's tennis history.

The most prospering of the Maleeva tennis family retired Thursday after a defeat at the Zurich Open. The Bulgarian ace was defeated by Patty Schnyder.

Magdalena's older sisters Manuela and Katerina had already quit their playing careers as well.

The Maleeva sisters, coached by mother Yulia Berberyan, had been part of the word's professional tennis since 1982.

Now the family have their own sporting complex and Sofia, while Magdalena has also established a women's fashion company.
