The ancient megalith building supposed to be the Orpheus tomb is threatened to turn into ruins, unless a protective construction is built over it.
A large part of the tomb, which is made of limestone, suffered damages by the torrential rains that hit the country during the summer.
The Culture Ministry has launched a tender to pick up a contractor to erect a module construction over the sarcophagus. The project at the cost of BGN 20,000 (approximately EUR 10,000) is expected to start by a week, Deputy Culture Minister Ivan Tokadzhiev said.
According to archeologists working on the site, the sanctuary at Tatul has flourished for more than two thousand years in ancient times. It is probably the largest temple after the nearby sanctuary of Dionysius in Perperikon.
