PRODUCER PRICES WILL NOT RISE, STATISTICS INSTITUTE FORECASTS

No inflation is expected in producer prices in industry, construction and retail trade, figures of the National Statistics Institute (NSI) show. The business climate indicator has marked a downward tendency in the last quarter in 2001. The fall is attributed to deterioration in the business climate in retail trade and construction. During the second half of 2001, the industry indicator has remained more or less unchanged. Business polls conducted by the NSI showed the expectations of businessmen in connection with the business climate in the country during the next six months improved significantly in comparison with November. The low demand throughout 2001 has been the key obstacle to the improvement of business situation in enterprises. Retail companies are among the few companies that have seen their financial position improve during the last two months.
