Appreciation of the US dollar against the Bulgarian lev (BGN) in the domestic market will not jeopardise the 2001 national budget and Bulgaria`s foreign debt service, Ministry of Finance said. 2001 national budget estimations are based on an exchange rate of BGN 2.11 for USD 1. Currently the exchange rate is BGN 2.27 for USD 1. The appreciation of the US dollar to the projections is by 7.5 percent. Bulgaria has still revenues denominated in USD, which balance the increased foreign debt service denominated in BGN, Finance Ministry experts said. 2001 foreign debt service amounts to USD 1,300 million. This country`s foreign debt was USD 8,275 million by end April, 2001.
