In December 2001, foundation Free and Democratic Bulgaria (FDBF) celebrated its 10th anniversary. One of the biggest achievements of the foundation is that it is the first Bulgarian NGO that addressed the plight of street children and homeless youths by establishing two day care centers – Faith, Hope and Love Center for Homeless children especially for street kids under 16 and 16+ Youth Day Care Center that tends to the needs of homeless and unemployed youths aged 16-25. Children and youths are accommodated in the centers on a purely voluntarily basis. The centers aim at socially integrating the young people who used their services. One of the most recent projects of the foundation is the Drug Prevention Program that aims to avert drug use by raising awareness and educating parents and children about ways to recognize and deal with drug use and abuse. The foundation is a member of the global AntiAIDS coalition and being such sponsors public awareness campaigns. Among many other noble programs, FDBF founder and chairman John Dimitry Panitza established the “Excellence in Journalism Prizes,” promoting high standards in Bulgarian print media. The foundation has provided more than USD 80,000 in emergency aids to hospitals, children's homes, schools and minorities.
