Katrina Toll Climbs past 400

The official death toll from Hurricane Katrina exceeded 400 on Monday as US President George W Bush toured New Orleans. Initially some 10,000 people were feared to have died in the August 29 storm, which has displaced a million people. "We didn't lose as many lives as had been predicted although we're still in the process of finding those we lost," said Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco. Reports say life in New Orleans is slowly returning to normal though parts of the city continue to be submerged under water and the hunt for the dead is continuing.
