How to Sack a Leader in 5 Steps

Bulgaria's largest and most famous role-playing game (RPG), Parliament, has had one more scenario added. The new feature is called "Sack the Coalition Leader" and has been initiated by the allegedly existing Political Council of Bulgaria's ultra-nationalistic coalition Attack.

In the beginning of this week, Petar Manolov, an MP, who initially joined Parliament on the ticket of Attack and then left its parliamentary group to become an independent MP, proudly announced that the coalition's Political Council has sacked its own leader, Volen Siderov. He cited quite reasonable grounds-authoritarian methods, nationalist rhetoric and offensive behavior towards presidential institutions.

Siderov, however, stroke back, stating that Coalition Attack has no Political Council. In his words, his force's parliamentary group has been registered under the name of the party Attack rather than the coalition.

Besides an explanation of the new RPG scenario's historical background, we offer aspiring gamers a short manual consisting of basic prescriptions on how to succeed in their "Sack the Coalition Leader" campaign.

Setting: A country's lawmaking body. (Hint: Beginners may choose a state with relatively recent democratic traditions, where political life is fractured and state institutions and laws are weak. Advanced players may try setting the scenario in a democracy experienced country.)

Number of players: Varies. (Hint: Greater number assures greater success in new democracies.)

Scenario objectives: Defeat enemy leader by sacking him and annulling his orders.

You: are the leader(s) of a hardly-ever-heard-of political unit, who want(s) to enter Parliament and thrive there but has (have) no chances of accomplishing the goal alone.

Your weapons: State laws. (Hint: In new democracies laws make poor weapons. Better try employing enemy leader's weapons for your own benefit.)

Your cheats: Getting paid by competing parliamentary forces. Greater monetary resources equal greater success rates.

Enemy leader: Deeply frustrated person, competing for power on grounds known only to himself.

Enemy leader's weapons: Radical opinions, strong rhetoric targeted at even more deeply frustrated audiences.

Enemy leader's cheats: Vary according to current situation. Basic steps to accomplish scenario objectives are listed below.

Step 1: Ally units. Prior to elections make sure to ally your what's the name unit with enemy leader's units, thus forming a coalition. Pretend if you don't share his views.

Enemy leader is too concentrated on acquiring adherents to facilitate victory, so even if you are a bad actor, chances are he won't notice.

Step 2: Become an MP. This turns out the easiest part. Just sit back and relax, allowing enemy leader to bathe in fame, as he shows off his eloquence in front of potential voters. This is one of the assets where he is most palpably stronger than you-he possesses a certain charisma, while you basically seem shabby and humdrum. In the meantime, watch him closely and accumulate strength to defeat him.

Step 3: Become an independent MP. There are two basic ways to do this. One is to engage in a quarrel with enemy leader and his units over differing opinions. Inform enemy leader you don't share his views, slam your resignation in a dramatic manner and move on. The other way is to support a parliamentary unit enemy leader despises during a key moment, say, the voting of a new government.

This course of action inevitably ends with your being expelled from enemy leader's ranks. Besides, it has one more benefit-rival forces might be prone to offer you money in return for your support. Of course, this is regarded as a cheat, which undermines your personality assets, but at least you will emerge richer.

(Hint: Only proceed further if you lack the common sense to fathom what the word independent actually means. Lack of common sense is crucial to accomplishing scenario objectives. However, you surely lack common sense if you have begun playing this scenario, in the first place.)

Step 4: Enable war mode. Begin by calling on other leaders, who have so far followed the same course of action as you. More units ensure more strength. More strength ensures greater success rates. Gather together and call a sitting of an allegedly existing Political Council. Settle upon resigning enemy leader and making all of his orders that are of no benefit to you null and void.

Step 5: Wrap it up. Go to a major media and announce the decision to sack enemy leader, citing your grounds. Enemy leader's weaknesses such as authoritarian methods, nationalist rhetoric and offensive behavior towards presidential institutions will serve your purpose well. (Hint: This is where you can employ enemy leader's weapons for your own benefit.) Threaten to take the matter to court in case he does not comply with your decision. Enemy leader will generally tend to disobey, so basically all you have to do is file a case and hope the court will rule in your favor.

(Hint: Each Parliament RPG scenario requires doing your homework. Therefore, research legal matters such as to whom the parliamentary unit actually belongs before dashing forth in a lawsuit.)

Good luck!
