Balkan Political Club was set up at a conference in Sofia. The club was initiated by the foundation of Bulgaria`s first president, Dr. Zhelyu Zhelev. Attending the conference were leading politics from Bulgaria and the region, Bulgarian king in exile, Simeon II, among them. The club targets rallying points for the Balkan countries. The club will not focus on politically biased ideas. The participants in the conference discussed the crisis in neighbouring Macedonia but made a decision not to circulate a special declaration on the issue. Dr. Zhelyu Zhelev was elected president of the club for a three-year term.
