Earthquake Rocks Northern Japan

A powerful magnitude-7.2 earthquake struck northeastern Japan on Tuesday, injuring at least 26 people. A tsunami alert was issued by Japan's meteorological agency but later lifted after two small waves a few centimetres high hit the coastline. The quake's epicentre is thought to have been 20km below the ocean off Miyagi prefecture. The quake was followed by at least four aftershocks and additional quakes of up to magnitude 6 could follow, the Meteorological Agency said.
