Iraqi government will be ready with the draft constitution of the country on Sunday, a day earlier of the deadline, President Jalal Talabani said. The politicians need to get the Constitution ready by Monday for an October 15th referendum. But they're divided over whether to adopt federalism for Iraq's new government. Kurdish leaders are demanding that to protect their regional self-rule. But other Sunnis are against it. They fear the country could fall apart if the Shiite majority also gets a federal state. Other major issues are unresolved as well, including the role of Islam in state laws and how the government should distribute the country's wealth. Besides, Shia and Kurdish negotiators have been deadlocked over the role of religion. There are now only two days left before the constitution is meant to be complete and one negotiator said the US ambassador, Zalmay Khalilzad, had come up with a text of his own to try to bridge the gaps.
