Stanishev-to Have and to Have Not an Entourage

Socialist leader Sergey Stanishev has become Bulgaria's newest Prime Minister. Above the board as some insist; by faulty means, as most believe. Destiny, however, has allotted him the likelihood of becoming the most short-lived one, as well.

Whatever be the case, an equally important question has arisen. For is not a ruler a mere nobody without his entourage? Positively.

And what an entourage it has been! Much disputed, to be sure. Ethnic diversity, a right-wing representative and a whole lot of two women-the entourage has had it all. But alas! It has been prevented from following the leader.

Thus, a miserable lot has befallen the newest of Bulgaria's rulers. Survival dilemmas, that is. A narrow vote has separated the PM from his dearly, or, for that matter, not so dearly beloved Cabinet.

Sure enough, vital questions have faced the Socialist leader upon the news of his potential partying with the entourage. All alone in a castle already crumbling down, besieged by multiple enemies and robbed of staff to pamper him, Stanishev has been left to choose between fate's mercy and his own decisions. Which is to be preferred by the Bulgarian people has proved quite questionable.

Still, how is the newly-fledged PM to proceed from now on? Maybe he will choose to act as the fly-by-night trader some of his foes believe him to be. Or he may prefer to live on the fiddle. The latter might not prove that difficult, for venomous tongues say he's been there already.

Another option ahead of the new PM is to go down the slippery slope of admitting defeat. But that, as demonstrated, has been taking a while and, as Bulgarians should by now be well aware, Stanishev, let alone Bulgaria itself, might want to think twice before choosing to waste time.

One thing is sure, though-the greatest enemy of all has long been lurking around the walls of Stanishev's freshly-acquired and already slipping-away stronghold. By now it has crept well inside the castle, reaching for the PM tower. And the aspiring ruler might want to consider whether his political career has been living on borrowed time and use that time to identify the enemy.
