The Stability Pact for Southeast Europe has one mail goal: to prepare the countries for European integration, Erhard Busek, the new Special Coordinator of the Stability Pact, said in an interview for the private Darik Radio.

According to him, the stabilization of Southeast Europe and the process of accession are equally important for the European Commission. The emphasis is on the development of the countries in the region, because there is no other way to European integration than stability in the region.

Busek said he has deep knowledge of the region after serving for five years as coordinator of the Southeast European Cooperative Initiative. He knows Bulgaria and has been here to get an honorary doctor's title of the Russe University. Busek recalled the understanding of the European Council that the platform for cooperation in Southeast Europe should assume more responsibilities within the Stability Pact, and said that he fully shares this view.

No country has advantage over the others and what matters is the projects and the actions that are being taken by the applicants, Busek said. The aim of the Stability Pact is to stabilize life in the whole region. Each one of the countries depends on the others and this is why none can be privileged, he pointed out.
