Bulgarian Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg has received a letter of congratulation from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) head.

It expresses IOC President Jacques Rogge's support for Sofia's bid to host the XXII Winter Olympic Games in 2014.

Mayor Stefan Sofianski sent last week a message of support for Sofia's bid to host the XXII Winter Olympic Games in 2014 in a letter to IOC President Jacques Rogge

Sofianski vowed the capital's bid for the Olympic games is fully supported by the government and the public.

"The perfect location of Sofia in the close proximity of surrounding mountains, the improved infrastructure of the city, the enthusiasm of its citizens, the fast development of city economy, all this gives us confidence to present again our candidature," the letter stated.

This is Bulgaria's third bid to host the Olympic Games, following its failures in 1992 and 1994. Other potential bidders for 2014 include the Republic of Georgia, as well as Pyeongchang, South Korea; Salzburg Austria and Ostersund, Sweden.
