Bulgaria's top sprinter Ivet Lalova is expected to be back on the sprinter track next summer at earliest, her doctor said.
The young athlete underwent surgical intervention after she broke a leg at a warm-up exercise last week in Athens.
In the words of Dr Anguel Lozanov, the leg fracture is rather heavy and it will take months for the nailed bone to recover.
He announced that Ivet has already committed to an active rehabilitation program and in two weeks time is expected to be able to move her leg freely.
The doctor said that because of the implanted nail Lalova's right leg is some 200g heavier than the left one.
Ivet Lalova is a European Champion at 200m and a double Olympics 2005 finalist.
