Nine Dead, 216 Arrested in Iraq

An Egyptian businessman and eight Iraqis were killed in attacks late on Saturday and Sunday as Baghdad said it had arrested another 216 suspects in a major operation in and around the capital. The latest arrests mean that Baghdad's Operation Lightning sweep, recently expanded to the so-called triangle of death to the south, has netted over 1,200 suspects. Since Saturday night, Iraqi forces have arrested 164 suspects in and around the area's notorious Sunni strongholds of Mahmudiyah and Latifiyah, said an interior ministry statement, adding that 10 detainees were "on the black list."
