Bulgarian sprinter Ivet Lalova was honored the Athlete of March 2005 award with the majority of votes of sports journalists in the country.
Bulgaria's fastest woman became Europe's champion at 200m indoor on March 6, when she also set a new national record clocking 22.91 seconds.
Lalova's mentor Konstantin Milanov lined her with the recognition of top coach of the month followed by Lili Ignatova, who is training Bulgaria's ensemble at rhythmic gymnastics.
The world's best in chess Vesselin Topalov moved up in the traditional monthly list topping Bulgaria's sport for May when he outplayed the best grand masters round the globe at M-Tel Masters in Sofia. He will be officially awarded on Wednesday.
