German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder says he is to rely on a personality-driven election campaign, two days after shocking the nation with a call for early elections. "We would do well to lead a very personalized contest which is focused on the two leading figures," he told weekly newspaper Die Zeit. His opponent is expected to be Angela Merkel, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) chief who hopes to be Germany's first woman chancellor.
