Italian Aid Worker Abducted in Afghanistan "Alive"

The man who said that he abducted Italian woman aid worker contradicted on Saturday his claim to have killed her. Clementina Cantoni, 32, a worker for the CARE International aid agency, was kidnapped on Monday by four gunmen who stopped her vehicle on a central Kabul street and bundled her into a white Toyota car. Timoor Shah, who claims that he abducted Cantoni said on Friday that she had been strangled after the government rejected his demands. On Saturday, howvere, AFP announced that it has been contacted by a man, who extended a deadline for his demands to be met to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
