Bulgaria's largest cities Sofia and Plovdiv, alongside many countries around the globe, will host the annual Italian festival of culture and arts to run from May 18.

This is the second year that Bulgaria is hosting the popular festival, a sign of the significance Italy attaches to this Balkan country as a business partner and cultural communicator.

Festivities of culinary, fashion, furniture design, arts and cinema are scheduled by the organisers from the Italian Foreign Trade Institute and the Italian Cultural Institute under the patronage of Ambassador to Sofia Gian Battista Campagnola.

"The great success of the first success edition of the Italian festival 2004 suggests even this year to celebrate the excellent relations between Bulgaria and Italy with more inititives of art, culture, fashion and cuisine," the Ambassador said Wednesday.

"We organise again Italian Festival here, in Bulgaria because of our assurance its messages draw Italian culture, arts, technologies and products nearer to Bulgarian people," said Giovanni Sacchi, Director of Sofia-based Bureau of the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade.

The list of participants in the festival features Chefs Anna Barbieri and Jessica Lupelli from the "Modena a tavola" Consortium to present the authentic cuisine of the region, including balsamic vinegar, Parmiggiano Reggiano chesse, Prosciutto di Modena (ham) and various wines.

World-acclaimed Italian architect and designer Alessandro Guerriero, president and art director of Milan's New Academy of Belles Arts (NABA), will curate the seminar dedicated to Italian furniture design. The presentation will be supported by a tour round some of most representative Italian design centers in Sofia, including Nido, Senza, and Versus.
