Referring to statements by representatives of Simeon II National Movement, PM Ivan Kostov said today that a proposed radical tax reform impressed as `strikingly incompetent`. He said that the Bulgarian taxation system has been reformed in keeping with the European standards and any other ideas jeopardize the negotiations with the EU on the relevant chapter of the acquis. He also added that it is inadmissible to grant tax preferences by a special law as it goes against the EU conditions for the closure of the relevant chapter, BTA state agency quoted. The question about the currency board is a serious one and a change as the one proposed by the Simeon II National Movement also puts to question the negotiations with the EU, the PM said. He further countered attacks against the public investment programme of the government, explaining that it too had been adopted compliant with the European standards, after the adoption of a law on regional development. He warned that if the programme is not implemented, Bulgaria will be unable to join the EU because of the infrastructure.
