The violin of the Bulgarian virtuoso Vasko Vassilev changed its owner going to the winner of a special contest held on Monday.

The violin was presented to Christina Hinova, a teenage girl studying at the National Music School "Lyubomir Pipkov" in Sofia.

The ancient instrument is part of the 13-century Bulgarian Fund and was awarded to Vassilev in 1988 for his outstanding talent.

The string master will stage three concerts in various towns of Bulgaria during the week.

Bulgaria's "wundekind of the violin" trained at the prestigious Central School of Music in Moscow, and achieved early international success by winning top prizes at the Jacques Thibaud Competition, the Carl Flesch Competition and the Paganini International Competition in two successive years between the ages of 17 and 19.
