PRESIDENT:SS –23 MISSILES DESTRUCTION IS IMPORTANT FOR NATO ENTRY

Politics | December 11, 2001, Tuesday // 00:00

Incumbent President Stoyanov said that the delay in the SS-23 missiles destruction will result in later than envisaged NATO accession of Bulgaria. He commented on the issue as a response to President-elect Parvanov’s statement that the SS-23 missiles destruction is not necessary to be destroyed before Bulgaria’s entry in NATO. Stoyanov pointed out that he firmly stands behind the Government’s decision for the missiles’ destruction. According to him, the statement that the missiles destruction should be delayed is against the national interests. Bulgaria will receive a generous aid package from the United States for the destruction of the SS-23 missiles, Foreign Minister Passy said on December 8 upon his return from Brussels, after his working visit in Washington.
