Bulgarian entrepreneurs are the most optimistic in Europe regarding the development of business next year, according to a survey conducted by the Association of European Chambers and Industry.

The Economic Review 2002 survey was conducted in 24 countries - 14 EU members and 10 EU candidate members. The survey considered the opinions of representatives of more than 100,000 companies in Europe.

The survey shows that 61.9 % of the Bulgarian companies in the production sector and 53.7 % in the services sector expect an increase in their sales revenues in 2002. Only 7.8 % expect their revenues from sales to decrease. The increase is mostly expected from sales abroad and businessmen are more sceptical regarding their domestic market revenues. Over 28 % of the respondents expect a decrease in unemployment, up from 14.4 % last year.

Over 46.8 % of the Bulgarian enterprises expect more investments and 56 % believe that the business climate in Bulgaria is improving.

The survey showed that entrepreneurs in the developed regions of Europe are more pessimistic regarding the development of the business climate than those in the poorer countries where economic expectations are bigger.
