M Leszek Miller and Hungarian PM Viktor Orban have visited Paris before the EU summit in Laeken. The Polish PM visited French PM Jospin with EU extension an inevitable item on the agenda. Both Poland and Hungary are opposed to an idea recently floated by French Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine that Romania and Bulgaria should also be in the first wave of candidates for EU membership. Other issues under discussion included bilateral matters such as transition periods on free flow of labour, and proposed visits to Poland by Jospin and French labour minister Elisabeth Guigou.
