A set of ten 3D models of various sites, historic events and traditions of Bulgaria gets ready to set off on a European tour to offer a glimpse into the beauties of the Balkan state ahead of its EU entry.

The miniatures of people, buildings, locations represented in the project "Bulgaria on Flat Hand" are now exhibited in Veliko Tarnovo, the old Bulgarian capital, which is hosting a national Culture Tourism Expo until April 23.

The ultra-realistic design does accommodate on a flat hand some of key turning points in Bulgarian history, culture and personalities, as well as several of most intriguing archeological findings of Thracian times unearthed by Dr Georgi Kitov last summer.

The models are sized between 60 and 120 cm. The artful lighting, the hidden loudspeaker boxes and the human figures in the surroundings are meant to obtain a vivid picture of the respective historical epoch.

The exhibition is to cover 30 cultural monuments, including the Rila Monastery, the medieval fortress Tsarevets of Turnovo, Bulgaria's smallest town of Melnik with the sandstone pyramids surrounding it, the ancient theatres in Plovdiv and many other culture-historical sites of interest.

The project is designed to present Bulgaria as a tourist destination with a thousand-year old history and various culture traditions, the project author Suni Suninski explained.

"Bulgaria has something to offer. Beside the rich diversity of flora and fauna there are almost inexhaustible possibilities for alternative forms of the tourism," Bisser Yalumov, Chief of Bulgaria Tourism Authority, told Bulgarian National Radio.
