There are 270 Bulgarian couples that face childlessness, a medical expert said Thursday.
Doctor Ivan Nikolov from a local reproductive health clinic recalled that Bulgarian population was the fastest-shrinking in the world.
Nikolov disclosed that most of the sterile people who seek his help are aged 35 or more.
Younger Bulgarians cannot afford in-vitro fertilization, the expert said at a news conference.
He also sounded an alarm over the increasing number of newborns with genetic diseases, like the Down Syndrome.
