EU to Shut Some Bulgarian Hospitals

Bulgaria's European Union entry will lead to the closedown of a number of hospitals, the health minister said this week. According to Minister Slavtcho Bogoev, that would affect about 30% of the health centers in the country. Hospitals that are regarded as unneeded, as well as those that don't match EU standards, will be shut down, the minister explained. Bulgaria is scheduled to sigh its EU accession treaty next Monday, and become a full-fledged member on January 1, 2007.
