The Observer published a long article on the European Union enlargement. According to the author in case Europe accepts too many countries all will suffer losses.

It is claimed in the article that the United States of America always wants Europe to be free and democratic, but without being able to vie with it. That’s the reason why the US insists on the accession of all 12 applicant states plus Turkey. According to the newspaper in this way the Americans will secure their strategic position. Europe will just turn into one huge free trade zone and nothing more, the article says.

In a report published several days ago the European Commission reportedly concedes that even the ten states, which are considered ready to join the EU, are too poor and not ready at all. Nobody however dares admit it, the Observer writes.

The newspaper underlines that the accession of too many countries will hinder the work of the Union, will paralyze the accession itself and all countries will become poorer even the applicant states.

The author supports the idea of membership based on the achievements of each separate country, but vehemently rejects the idea of large-scale enlargement.
