Japan's FM Set to Ease Chinese Crisis

Japanese Foreign Minister Nobutaka Machimura flew into China Sunday to try to ease a crisis following the third weekend of violent demonstrations in Shanghai. The fury of the Chinese was triggered by a revised Japanese school textbook they say whitewashes atrocities during Japan's 1931-45 occupation of China and at Tokyo's bid for a permanent seat on the U.N. Security Council. Thousands marched Saturday to Japan's consulate in Shanghai, smashing windows, pelting it with paint bombs and attacking Japanese restaurants along the way.
