EU Probes World Cup Ticket Prices

Sports | April 15, 2005, Friday // 00:00

The European Union may approach its control bodies following reports of unjustifiably high prices of the tickets for next year's World Cup because of a deal between Mastercard, FIFA and the German Football Association.

EU Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes will be in charge of the check.

Reports say fans buying tickets for next year's World Cup must pay up to 60 percent more than face value because of the deal between Mastercard, FIFA and the German Football Association.

FIFA, MasterCard and tournament host the German FA have all denied the allegations.
