Kyrgyzstan Fixes June 26 to Elect New President

Presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan will take place on June 26, the upper chamber of the Kyrgyz parliament decided on Saturday. The decision was passed by two-thirds of MPs attending the session. It was also decided that the current bicameral parliament will continue to perform its duties until June 26, 2005. Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev, who recently left his country following the collapse of his government, is currently in Russia, Interfax reported quoting a credible, but anonymous Moscow source.
