Bulgaria's top skating pair Albena Denkova and Maxim Staviski, 2004 silver medallists, retained their fourth position after performing their original dance at the World Figure Skating Championships in Moscow.

Champions Tatiana Navka and Roman Kostomarov extended their ice dance lead at the world figure skating championships. The Russian crowd favourites, with 114.64 points, are almost five points clear of second-placed Americans Tanith Belbin and Benjamin Agosto ahead of Friday's decisive free dance.

Ukrainian husband-and-wife team Elena Grushina and Ruslan Goncharov held on to the third place with 104.47. The Bulgarians performed a fluid routine to keep them in the running, less than a point behind the Ukrainians.
