The Irish production "Adam and Paul", directed by Lenny Abrahamson, won the best-movie award at the Sofia International Film Festival.
A stylised, downbeat comedy, the film follows two friends through a single day, which, as it happens so often, is entirely devoted to scrounging and robbing money for drugs.
The ninth edition of the fest, which presented 184 documentaries, short and feature films, was closed Sunday evening with an official ceremony, taking place in the National Palace of Culture in Sofia.
The international jury presented also two special awards - to Saman Salur, Iran, for his feature debut "From the Land of Silence" (2004)- a fairy-tale about two children struggling with hard, ruthless life in the desert. The other special award went to Srdjan Koljevic for his first feature film "Red Coloured Grey Truck" (2004), Serbia/Germany/Slovenia.
The special award of the international federation of film critics (FIPRESCI) was granted to "Adam and Paul".
The fest continues with a special program until March 20, followed by yet another week March 21-27, dedicated to the francophone cinema.
