The governing body of South Africa's administrative capital has decided to change the capital's name from Pretoria to Tshwane, following an effort to eliminate the city's apartheid past. The name Pretoria will only be restricted for the city center. Tshwane, a Zulu word meaning "we are the one because we live together," will refer to the greater metropolitan area, according to a decision made by the Tshwane City Council. The council authorized the municipal manager to affect all the necessary legal and administrative procedures to register the geographical area that constitutes the municipality as a city with the name Tshwane, said a report of the SAPA news agency.
