France's number 1 tennis player Amelie Mauresmo eliminated Bulgaria's Magdalena Maleeva 6-2 7-6 in a quarterfinal match of the USD 585, 000 Open Gaz de France tournament.

With two breaks in her pocket, Amelie Mauresmo won with ease the first set 6-2 in 25 minutes.

The second set was a close one as the Bulgarian player suddenly upped the ante and forced the public's favourite to make more efforts. The two players offered to the public a tie-break, which Amйlie won by 7 point to 2.

In her previous match No. 8 Magdalena Maleeva of Bulgaria routed Jelena Jankovic of Serbia and Montenegro 6-4, 6-0.

In semi-finals, Amelie Mauresmo will be opposed to Russian Nadia Petrova.

Following the withdrawal of Maria Sharapova and then Serena Williams's walkover (both players fell sick during the tournament), the French player is now considered the big favourite of the Open Gaz de France.
