As many as 13 people may have been killed in a blast near an Iraqi army recruitment centre in western Baghdad, hospital officials and police said. Police were investigating reports that the explosion was a suicide bombing. In a separate incident, gunmen ambushed the convoy of Iraqi politician Mithal al-Alusi in western Baghdad, killing two of his sons. Police said the secretary-general of the Democratic Party of the Iraqi Nation had survived the attack.
