Bulgaria's and Japan's best of the pop shook hands on Sofia stage, as world famous pop singer Kazufumi Miyazawa heated up the stage together with his Bulgarian colleague, the "Crickets" legend Kiril Marichkov.

Both sang Miyazawa's greatest hit "Island Song" and performed in alternating Japanese-Bulgarian stanzas the song "One and only land".

"Shima Uta" (Island Song) became a global hit, selling 1.5 million copies. This beautiful Okinawan melody was covered by numerous artists including some in other countries.

The Miyazawa band includes nine musicians coming from Japan, Argentina, Brazil, and Cuba who perform in instruments typical of various parts of the world.

Just before the Tuesday concert in the National Palace of Culture, the Japanese Embassy to Sofia officiated a donation of high-tech sound equipment worth of 46.3 million yens (approximately USD 386,000).

The Sofia concert is a part of Miyazawa's 2005 European tour to drop in on French, Polish, Russian and British soil as well.
