Bulgaria-born artist Christo and his wife Jeanne-Claude, who began wrapping New York Central Park at the beginning of the year, will have the fabric produced at Germany's Zeltplane company.

A total of 100,000 sq m special yellow cloth is necessary for bringing to life The Gates project, that will be installed on February 12 to remain there for two weeks.

The idea for "The Gates, Central Park, New York, 1979 to 2005" project dates back to 1968. Over the years Christo and Jeanne-Claude sought unsuccessfully the support of four successive New York mayors, but it was at the beginning of April last year that Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who is a patron of the arts, greenlighted it.

A total of 7,500 16-foot metal frames will be erected throughout the park at 15-foot intervals.

The project is worth of USD 20 M funded completely by the two artists.
