Tsunami Disaster Toll Jumps to 280,000

Indonesia rose to 220,000 the number of people killed by December's earthquake and tsunami, bringing the total death toll across the region to 280,000. Thailand's death toll went up to 5,384 confirmed dead, another 3,000 people are missing. More than 1,000 of them are foreigners. The official toll in Sri Lanka was set at 30,957, in neighbouring India - 10,744 with 5,669 still reported missing and feared dead. The tsunami disaster claimed the lives of 61 people in Myanmar, 82 in the Maldives, 68 in Malaysia, 2 in Bangladesh, 298 in Somalia, ten in Tanzania and one in Kenya.
