It took only 50 minutes to Bulgaria's best racket Magdalena Maleeva to beat 6-1 6-1 Magui Serna of Spain.
Monday's victory of 22-seeded Maggie launched her to the second round of Australian Open with a purse of USD 14.36 M. Another Spanish defeat, that of Virginia Ruano Pascual 4-6 6-1 6-4, made her next rival to be Alina Zhidkova of Russia.
This is the first time that Maggie will play with the 54-seeded Russian, who reached the third round of Australian Open in 2003.
Hard-hitting Greek Eleni Daniilidou and veteran Bulgarian Magdalena Maleeva were among Monday's opening-round winners at the first tournament of Grand Slam.
After the other hopeful of Bulgaria Sesil Karatantcheva dropped from the tournament in the very first match against Maria Sharapova, Maleeva retains hopes of the nation for victory.
